I was lying in my bed asleep, and then I woke up to my parents fighting, again. They screamed at each other then I realized what had happened. My brother got his girlfriend pregnant.
My brother was, for lack of a better word, an idiot. He started to get into drugs at a young age. He started with pot, at around 14, and he stayed with only similar stuff for a few years. Then when he was like 16 he started to get in to the more serious drugs like ecstasy, vicodin, acid, etc. My brother was smart enough, however, to stay away from meth, crack, cocaine, and needle drugs. when he was about 17 he got more into drugs but he didn’t try anything new except alcohol. Another thing, was that my brother wasn’t unfamiliar with the cops, as to say, he was a vandal, and a criminal.
Back to the story, my parents weren’t too happy about this mostly because they had paid $44,000 for him to go to the Michigan Instatute of Aeronautics. he was going to go to the air force for a few years then try for NASA, but not any more. My parents told them to get an abortion, they said they would pay for it and everything. my brothers girlfriend said no, she said it would hurt too much, emotionally, I think she just wanted to keep my brother from going to the air force.
Nine months, a marriage, and a baby shower later they had the baby, little Madison-jade Marie Lowe was born. Everything was good, for about 2 weeks after that everything went downhill. Social services came, and took away Madison from her parents. Their reasons were: one, bad living conditions, because they were living in my brother's wife's grandfather's house that wasn’t up to code, had fleas, and was flooded where they were staying, two, little income, she didn’t work (because she had a panic attack at her first and only job)and my brother got fired, and three, her mom left her on the changing table, said she was done taking care of the baby, and went and watched TV in the other room.
My parents were not going to sit back and watch Madison go off and live with strangers. So they fought and got temporary custody of Madison. The court said that if they wanted back the baby they would have to take parenting classes, get better income, and get their own place to live. So for six months my parents not only had to take care of the baby but had to help them get the baby back.
Everything went smoothly at first. My brother got a job, my parents set them up with an apartment, and they paid for the first 6 months. This whole time my parents had to buy all of Maddie's clothes, food, toys, furniture, etcetera. Then after a few months they started to blame my parents for everything. They said they weren’t going to let my parents see Maddie after they got her back. Their super justified reasons for this were because my parents fed Madison a cupcake, and painted her toe nails when they asked them not to.
When the time was done my brother got his baby back, and kept to his promise. They kept Madison as far from my parents as possible. But there was just a law passed that if in this type of situation the foster parants/grandparents were legally allowed to visit with the child. And my parents were going to be the first to use this law. My parents took them to court and got visiting rights with Maddie.
Then, just so that my parents couldn’t see the baby, my brother gave her to an adoption agency. After about 2 months the baby was placed in a home. My parents found them and were going to try and contact them to see if they could get some visitation. But before they could my brother found out and went and took the baby back(which is legal within the first 2 months). They kept her for a day, before they drove 2 hours away to give her to a private adoption agency, so my parents couldn’t find her.
After they gave her up, they lost all connection to our family. Everyone considered them dead. No one could believe how much a son could hate their parents, or how a parent could hate their child, in any circumstances. Now all we can do is sit back hope of finding her again. Someday.
